“Without Sheri Tingey and her marvelous Alpacka Raft, there would be no packrafting renaissance.”
–Roman Dial, Packrafting! An Introduction & How To Guide
Sheri Tingey and her son Thor made the first Alpacka Raft in the basement of their Chugiak, Alaska home in 2000. Their vision was simple–to build an ultralightweight, high-performance, low-maintenance, and bombproof packraft that could withstand the rigours of epic traverses through the Alaskan wilderness. Through constant experimentation and testing, we’ve made a lot of innovations to our packrafts over the years, but we’ve always stayed true to our original vision. Today, we offer eight models in a wide range of sizes and configurations, with each packraft handmade in our Mancos, Colorado facility by craftsmen and women using the finest raw materials, workmanship and design available anywhere.
The Alpacka Raft Series – Revolutionary all purpose, whitewater capable, and expedition proven. Our original and namesake model is offered in four sizes, multiple colors, open boat, Cruiser Spray Deck, Whitewater Spray Deck, or Self Bailing Floor and Cargo Fly compatible.
The Scout Series – Minimalist. The Scout and its big brother, the CuriYak are made for river crossings, remote lakes, and exploring hidden wonders. The Curiyak is also popular with bike-rafters due to its minimalist features and spacious cockpit. The Ghost Scout is a superlight version of the Scout, weighing in at only 1.5lbs.
The Cargo Series – Take the dog, take a friend, or take your family. The Cargo Series is made for carrying extra weight or an extra person. The Fjord Explorer is our largest single person packraft and is perfect for hunters, fishermen and big river expeditions. We built the Explorer 42 as a whitewater capable two person packraft for saving weight (over two single rafts) on a long expedition. The Gnu is our largest, most versatile, and fastest packraft and can be configured to be rowed, paddled like a canoe or C2, or operated as a packable drift boat for fishing. The Double Duck is a two person flatwater boat designed for aquatic researchers.
The Whitewater Series – Wilderness Descents. Introduced in 2014, the Alpackalypse is the first and only whitewater specific packraft with low volume high pressure vectran tube construction and patent pending thigh brace rigging for unparalleled edge control and rolling ability. The Alpacka Raft series, the Fjord Explorer, and whitewater decked Gnu are also very capable whitewater boats.
