Cargo Fly

$275.00

The Cargo Fly is the ultimate packraft gear storage solution. The three piece system utilizes an airtight and watertight zipper installed in the stern of the boat together with two dry bags (standard or ultralight) which are clipped in place along the inside of the raft tubes. We recommend the Ultralight Dry Bags for most packrafting trips and Standard Dry Bags for additional durability and river systems with multi-chamber permitting requirements.

Please see our retrofit page for installing a Cargo Fly in an existing boat.

The Cargo Fly is the ultimate packraft gear storage solution. The three piece system utilizes an airtight and watertight zipper installed in the stern of the boat together with two gear storage dry bags which are clipped in place along the inside of the raft tubes. The system provides drier and more secure gear storage, improved paddling performance due to a lower center of gravity, quicker transitions from packrafting to hiking, and the internal dry bags act as additional balanced air chambers for increased safety (even over a two-chamber packraft) in the event of a puncture. The Cargo Fly is perfect for expeditions, whitewater performance, and keeping your gear dry in any conditions. The Standard Dry Bags are inflatable and recommended for river systems with multi-chamber permitting requirements.  The Ultralight Dry Bags have a standard roll top closure and are a staff favorite.

Cargo Fly Zipper Care:

  • Warning: Special considerations are necessary when using the zipper and improper care of the zipper can render your packraft useless!
  • Constant vigilance is required to keep sand and dirt out of the Cargo Fly zipper. Keep the zipper closed except when packing and unpacking the Cargo Fly. Keep zipper and packing items out of sand when packing.
  • Lubricate your zipper regularly using zipper lubricant or chapstick. For MasterSeal zippers (visible teeth), lubricate both sides of the docking end but not the zipper teeth. For SuperSeal zippers (encased teeth), lubricate the entire length of the zipper and the docking end and wipe off excess lubricant. A properly lubricated zipper will slide smoothly and freely.
  • Take care when opening and closing the zipper. Never use the zipper to depressurize a tempered boat, use the fill and dump valves instead. Pull smoothly and directly on the zipper pull in line with the zipper. Do not jerk or pull at an angle to the zipper.
  • At home, make sure the zipper and interior of the boat is completely dry (this takes time!) before placing in storage. Wet storage, especially in warm climates, will cause fungus to grow on SuperSeal zippers, which leads to cracking and air leakage.

Cargo Fly Zipper Warranty:

Cargo Fly zippers are covered by a 2 year limited warranty. After 2 years, we will replace zippers for a $75 fee. Failure to properly care for your zipper and cargo fly system will void this warranty.
