Uses – Along with Tyvek Tape, Aquaseal® UV is a great option for doing a quick in field repair when you need to get back on the water. Aquaseal® UV is effective on both coated (like our packrafts) and uncoated fabrics (like our seats and paddling suits). It is particularly good on uncoated fabrics because the fabric can be damp during the patching process. Because of its brittle character, Aquaseal® UV is not a good repair material for larger punctures and tears unless the repair is very well backed with Tenacious Tape®. Use Tyvek Tape for quick field repairs of large punctures.
Preparation – All coated surfaces must be clean and dry. Alcohol swabs are best for this. Uncoated surfaces need to be clean, but they can be damp.
Application – Start by finding shade. Aquaseal® UV will cure instantly (even as it is being squeezed out of the tube) in sunlight. Use your body or a friend to shade the area while you are applying the patch. Squeeze the Aquaseal® UV carefully extending about 1/2-inch past the affected area. Spread it around if necessary to get full coverage. Place the cap back on the Aquaseal® UV before exposing to sunlight as it will cure in the tube. Expose the affected area to sunlight and it will cure in 5-10 seconds.
Cleanup – Alcohol or acetone will clean up uncured Aquaseal® UV. Acetone should be used sparingly on the packraft.
